As of April 10, 2016, the USPS is rolling back the price for postage to 2013 rates.
Background: In 2013, the USPS was granted an emergency price increase to help recover from impact of the recession. This price increase was capped at $4.634 Billion.
This cap has now been met and prices must be rolled back to what they were in 2013.
This price change goes into effect on April 10, 2016.
Future impact: It is expected that the next USPS price increase will be in January 2017. This is the traditional time for postage rate changes. The USPS is limited to CPI based increases. However, they will get to include those increases they would have been able to do while the exigent pricing was in place.
